Kumpir is another form of street food and simply baked potato with a crisp outer skin and soft inside mixed with butter.
The soup is a simple dish and very popular in Turkey. Most popular choices are lentil, tomato, black cabbage and sheep brain soup.
3-Pide or Lahmacun
Pide is a popular dish in turkey. A thin crust of pastry is covered with toppings like cheese, egg, diced meat, chicken and put it into a high heat stone oven. The equivalent western food is pizza. Another version which is lighter is Lahmacun. The both are traditionally served with fresh salad.
It is the turkish version of meatballs and sold in a wrap as street food or served on a plate with rice in restaurants. There are many different types of kofte like Cig Köfte which is raw meatballs.
We have more than 40 different types of kebabs in Turkey. Big skewers of rotating chicken or beef are cooked slowly before the cook slices stripes from the outside of the skewer, put them in a pastry wrap, and fills it with lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Kebab is delicious with Ayran which made of yogurt, salt and water.
Gozleme is a popular food which is sold at local restaurants. It is filled with a variety of fillings including spinach, cheese, potatoes, parsley and cooked on a large grill. You can have Ayran with Gozleme as well.
You will not see Menemen on restaurant menus but most restaurants in old town will make it for you. It is quick and easy as well. Peppers, onions and tomatoes are fried in a pan and eggs are scrambled into the mixture. Finally It is served with bread.
